Cracked inner oven glass and what causes it

This is the pane closest to the heat, so it takes the biggest temperature swings in the door. Cracks usually start from a chip at the edge, a splash of cold water on hot glass, or the door being slammed or knocked while hot. You might see a single line across the pane, a spiderweb pattern, or glass that has shattered into small pieces between the panes. Even a small crack can spread with heating and cooling, and the door won't insulate properly with a broken inner pane, so the front gets hotter than normal. Replace it before using the oven again.

Changing the inner glass

With the oven off at the wall and fully cool, remove the door and lay it on a padded surface. Undo the top trim to slide the panes out, noting which way each one faces, since some panes have a coating on one side only. Clean the remaining glass while it's apart, fit the new inner pane in the original orientation and reassemble before rehanging the door.
