Signs of a worn Westinghouse oven hinge
A door that won't stay shut, drops the last few centimetres when you open it, or leaves a gap along one side is usually down to hinge wear. Inside each hinge a spring counterbalances the heavy glass door, and over years of opening and heating that spring tires or the pivot wears loose. The seal can't press evenly against the oven front once that happens, so heat leaks out, the knobs and fascia run hot and bake times creep up. A hinge with a broken arm can also stop the door being lifted off cleanly.

Fitting the new hinge
Isolate the oven at the switchboard and wait for it to cool. With the door fully open, check how the hinge locks are set before lifting the door away, and get a second pair of hands if it's heavy. Fit the hinge into the frame slot, rehang the door and check it closes square against the seal.
