Grill not heating in a Westinghouse or Chef oven
The grill element is the exposed coil that glows red to brown toast, melt cheese and crisp the top of a dish. Over time the outer sheath can blister, crack or burn through, and once that happens the element stops heating, heats only along part of its length, or trips the safety switch as soon as the grill is turned on. Sometimes you'll see a bright flash or hear a pop at the moment it fails. If the grill indicator lights up but there's no heat, the element is the first thing to test with a multimeter.

Changing the grill element
Switch the appliance off at the isolator or switchboard and wait until it's cold. Depending on the model, the element is released from inside the grill compartment or the terminals are reached from the rear, which may mean pulling the cooker or oven out. Photograph the terminal wiring before disconnecting it, transfer it exactly to the new element, and get a licensed electrician to handle any hard-wired connections.
