Rangehood not extracting? Signs the motor and fan have failed
The motor spins the fan that pulls steam, smoke and grease up through the filters and out through the duct or back into the room. Grease build-up, worn bearings and heat all take their toll. Common signs include a humming motor that won't spin, a fan that only runs on some speeds, grinding or rattling, a burning smell, or weak extraction even with clean filters. If the light and controls work but the fan is dead or struggling, the motor assembly is a prime suspect.

Changing the rangehood motor
Isolate power at the switch or circuit breaker before removing the filters and any internal covers. Photograph the wiring and how the motor is mounted, including any rubber mounts or gaskets. If the rangehood is hard-wired, a licensed electrician should do the electrical work. Clean the inside of the housing while it's open, then test every fan speed.
