The surround seal sits between the cooktop and the benchtop cut-out. Resealing the cooktop
Isolate power at the circuit breaker, and turn off the gas on a gas hob, before the cooktop comes out. Peel off the old seal and clean the rim with a mild degreaser so the new seal sits cleanly. Lay it around the edge without stretching and join the ends neatly. Reconnecting a hard-wired or gas cooktop is a job for a licensed electrician or gas fitter.
