Gas burner not sparking or slow to light
When you push and turn a knob, the ignition generator sends high voltage down the lead to the spark plug, which arcs to the burner crown and lights the gas. A cracked ceramic body, a burnt or badly routed lead, or a tip coated in grease will stop the spark or send it to earth somewhere else. Signs include a burner that clicks without lighting, a weak orange spark, or sparking you can see or hear under the cooktop instead of at the burner. Clean the tip and dry the burner area before replacing anything.

Fitting the spark plug
Isolate the power and turn off the gas before removing the cooktop top. Follow the old lead back to the ignition generator and note its route, keeping the new lead the same distance from metal edges and hot parts. Clip the electrode into the burner cup so the tip sits at the same gap from the crown. A licensed gas fitter should do this work and check every burner lights.
