This genuine Chef ignition box, part 4055538641, is the battery powered spark generator behind the push button on many Chef gas cooktops. It has four outlets, one for each burner electrode, and runs from a 1.5V battery supply. Chef cooktop won't spark

Pressing the ignition button closes a circuit that lets this box turn the battery's 1.5V into rapid high voltage pulses. Each pulse travels down a lead to an electrode beside a burner and jumps to earth as a spark, lighting the gas. If nothing clicks at all with a fresh battery fitted, or the clicking is slow and weak across every burner, the box is the likely culprit. A single burner that won't spark while the others do usually points to that burner's lead or electrode instead.

Before you replace the ignition box

Try a new battery first, as a flat cell causes most weak spark complaints. Turn the gas off at the cooktop isolation valve before lifting the cooktop.
