Gas burner flame uneven or yellow? Check the burner head
The burner head, sometimes called the crown or spreader, splits the gas into the ring of small flames you see under the pan. Spills, harsh cleaners and years of heat can warp it, clog the flame ports or crack it. Signs include flames that are patchy, lifting off the burner, burning yellow or only lighting on one side, slow ignition, and a lot of soot on pans. A burner head that doesn't sit flat on its base can also cause flames in the wrong places.

Fitting the rapid burner head
Turn all knobs off and let the cooktop cool. Lift off the cap and old head, wipe the base clean and make sure the ignition electrode and thermocouple aren't bent. Seat the new head so it locates properly on the base, refit the cap and light the burner to check for an even blue flame. If the flames are still poor, call a licensed gas fitter.
