Fridges and air conditioner outdoor units both use sensors like this to adjust how they run. The appliance isn't named in our records and there's no model list, so please confirm the number on your old sensor or in your parts list before you buy.

What an ambient sensor does and how it fails

An ambient sensor is usually a thermistor whose resistance changes with temperature. The control board uses that reading to adjust things like compressor speed, fan speed, defrost timing or heater operation to suit the conditions around the appliance. When it fails open or short circuit, the board may show an error code, run in a fixed fallback mode, or behave oddly in very hot or cold weather. Corroded plugs and damaged leads are common causes, so check those before fitting a new sensor.

Part details

Genuine Electrolux group part 4055498242

Ambient (surrounding air) temperature sensor

Appliance and models not on file

Testing before you replace it

Turn the appliance off and isolate the power. Unplug the old sensor and measure its resistance with a multimeter, comparing it with the service data for your model at the current room temperature. If it's out of range, fit the new sensor in the same holder and route the lead the same way. Hard-wired appliances such as split systems need a licensed technician.

Questions about this part

Is this sensor for a fridge or an air conditioner?

Our records list it only as an ambient temperature sensor, without the appliance. Look up the part number in your appliance's parts list, or send the model and serial number or PNC, and we'll confirm before you order.
