Why the switch gasket on a rangehood matters

A rangehood control panel sits in the steam and grease rising from the cooktop. The gasket between the push buttons and the switch body keeps that vapour from settling on the contacts. Fitting the switch gasket

Turn the rangehood off at the wall, or isolate it at the switchboard if it's hard-wired, and have a licensed electrician open hard-wired units. Remove the filters and the control panel cover. Clean any grease off the switch and panel, fit the gasket so every button passes through its opening, and refit the panel. Test each button for a clean click before using the hood.
