Rusty or broken dishwasher bottom basket?
The bottom basket rolls in and out on its rails and holds the heaviest load in the dishwasher. A plastic coating protects the wire frame, but once it chips, rust starts and can leave orange marks on dishes and stain the tub. Broken tines let plates lean or fall against the spray arm, stopping it from spinning, which leaves the whole load poorly washed. A bent frame can make the basket drag, catch on the door or come off its rails.

Fitting the lower basket
No tools are usually needed. Pull out the old basket and lift it clear of the rails. Check the rails it runs on are straight and clean, then set the new basket on them and roll it in and out to check it travels smoothly. With the basket in place, spin the lower spray arm by hand to make sure nothing catches it.
