Cracked or missing rangehood light cover?
The diffuser spreads light evenly across the cooktop and stops grease and steam reaching the lamp holder. Being plastic and sitting above the heat, it can yellow, warp or go brittle over time, and the clips often break when it is taken off for cleaning. A damaged or missing diffuser leaves the globe exposed to grease, makes the light harsh and patchy, and lets the lamp area get dirty much faster.

Fitting the diffuser
Switch the rangehood off at the wall and let the light cool before touching it. Remove the grease filter if it blocks access. Release the old diffuser from its clips or slots, clean the lamp area while it is exposed, then press or slide the new cover in until it clicks into place. If the globe has blown, now is a good time to replace it as well.
