Product details

Oven light gone dark? Fisher & Paykel part 404000 is a genuine 40W oven lamp with a small Edison screw base (SES, also called E14), rated 230V and with a lustre finish. It suits Fisher & Paykel ovens that take a 40W SES oven globe, and it's also linked to the Electrolux number 4055921607. Check the wattage and base on your old globe before ordering, and only use a globe made for oven heat.

Why an oven needs a proper oven lamp

The oven light lets you check food without opening the door and letting heat escape. Ordinary household globes aren't built for the temperatures inside an oven cavity, so a globe made for oven use is the safe choice. Oven globes usually fail like any filament globe, going dark suddenly or flickering before they quit. If a new globe doesn't light, the fault could be the lamp holder, the wiring or the light switch, so those are worth checking next. A cracked lamp cover should be replaced too, as it shields the globe from grease and heat.

Changing the oven globe

Switch the oven off at the wall or isolate the circuit, and wait until the cavity and lamp cover are completely cold. Remove the shelves and lay a cloth on the oven floor in case anything drops. Unscrew the lamp cover, which can be tight after many heating cycles, then swap the globe, handling it with a dry cloth. Refit the cover before restoring power.

Questions about this part

Can I use a normal 40W globe instead?

It's not recommended. A household globe isn't designed for the heat inside an oven and can fail early or break. Use a globe made for ovens with the same 40W rating and SES (E14) base as the one you're replacing.
