Lower oven losing heat? Check the seal

A seal around the front of an oven cavity holds the heat in, keeps cooking times accurate and protects the controls and cabinetry from hot air. With years of heat cycling and cleaning, seals flatten, harden, tear or come away from their clips. Replacing the lower oven seal

Let the oven cool and turn it off at the switchboard. Note how the old seal is held, whether by clips, hooks or a channel, before pulling it out. Start fitting the new seal at the top or a corner and work around without stretching it. Close the door and check it shuts evenly with the seal compressed all round. Running the lower oven empty for a short time helps the new seal settle.
