Uneven wok burner flame? Check the burner caps
The caps sit on top of the wok burner head and spread the gas into even rings of flame. Enamel caps take a beating from boil-overs, cleaning products and the heat of a big wok. Once the enamel chips or a cap warps, the flame can lift, burn yellow, light unevenly or struggle to catch all the way around. A cap that has been dropped or left soaking can also sit crooked, which upsets the flame pattern and lets food spills reach the burner ports.

Seating the new caps
Make sure the burner is off and completely cool. Lift away the old caps and clean the burner head and ports with a soft brush, letting everything dry fully. Seat the new caps so they sit flat and centred, then light the burner and check for an even blue flame all the way round. If the flame stays uneven or yellow with new caps fitted, have a licensed gas fitter check the burner.

No. Caps simply lift off and sit back on the burner, so most owners fit them themselves. If the burner won't light or burns poorly after the new caps are in place, call a licensed gas fitter rather than adjusting anything else.
