Fitting the new knob
Make sure every burner is off and the cooktop is cool. Pull the old knob straight up off the spindle without twisting. Line up the flat in the new knob with the flat on the spindle and press it down until it seats. Turn it through each setting to confirm it moves the valve cleanly and returns to off. Any work on the gas valve itself is a job for a licensed gas fitter.
