The ice maker depends on a sensor to manage its fill and harvest cycle, and this lead carries the signal from that sensor back to the fridge electronics. Wires that sit in the freezer can crack, chafe or corrode at the connector over time, especially where they flex near the ice maker. When the signal is lost, the ice maker may stop making ice, produce it only now and then, or trigger a fault. Ice building up around the ice maker can also damage the lead.

Fitting the sensor lead
Turn the fridge off at the wall and unplug it before working on the ice maker. Remove the ice bin and any covers to reach the sensor connection, noting how the old lead is routed and clipped. Run the new lead along the same path so it cannot rub or pinch, plug it in firmly, then restore power and allow time for the freezer to cool and the first ice to form.
