Freezer not cold or fan noisy? Look at the evaporator fan
In a frost free fridge freezer, the evaporator fan sits behind the freezer back panel. It pulls air across the cold evaporator coil and pushes it through the ducts into both compartments. When the motor stalls or its bearings wear, the freezer warms, the fridge section loses its supply of cold air and food starts to thaw or spoil. A failing fan often gives a warning first, with a squeal, buzz or ticking from the freezer that changes when the door opens. Ice building up on the back panel can also jam the blade.

Before you fit the fan kit
Unplug the fridge and move the food into an esky or a spare freezer. Remove the freezer shelves and the rear panel to reach the fan, and photograph the wiring and the way the old fan is mounted. If the coil behind the panel is iced up, let it defrost fully first so ice can't jam the new blade. Refit the panel, plug back in and listen for the fan once the fridge starts cooling.
