Battery ignition not sparking? Check the holder
The holder keeps an AA battery pressed against its contacts and carries that power through its leads. When it fails, the symptoms look like a flat battery that never comes good. A new battery makes no difference, the ignition clicks weakly or not at all, or it only works when the holder is wiggled. Look for green or white corrosion on the springs, a cracked case that no longer grips the battery, or a lead that has pulled out or chafed through. Any of those means the holder should be replaced.

Replacing the battery holder
Make sure all burners are off and turn off the gas at the appliance isolation valve before you start. Trace both leads from the old holder to where they connect, take a photo and note the polarity. Fit the new holder in the same spot, route the leads away from hot surfaces and sharp edges, then connect them the same way and test with a fresh AA battery. If the job means moving any gas fittings, leave that to a licensed gas fitter.
