The aluminium filter catches grease droplets carried up in steam and smoke before they reach the fan and ducting. Washing it regularly keeps it working, but over time filters get bent, clog with baked on grease, or the frame and latch corrode. A blocked filter makes the rangehood louder and weaker, so cooking smells linger and steam fogs up the kitchen. Swapping the rangehood filter
Turn the rangehood off and let the cooktop cool. Release the latch on the old filter and lower it out carefully, as it may drip grease. Check the new filter's size against the old one, then hook the back edge in and push the front up until the latch engages. Wash aluminium filters regularly in hot soapy water, or as your rangehood manual advises.
