Signs a gas burner ignition pin has failed
The ignition pin, sometimes called a spark plug or candle, sits beside the burner and throws a spark across to the burner cap when you push and turn the knob. A cracked ceramic body, a burnt or bent tip, or a damaged lead lets the spark leak away to earth somewhere else, so you hear clicking but the gas doesn't catch. Other signs are a weak spark on one burner while the rest work, or no click at all from that position. Grease and spills can cause similar trouble, so clean and dry the area before you order.

Fitting a new ignition pin
Turn off the gas supply and switch the appliance off at the wall before you begin. The lead runs from the pin back to the spark generator, so note its route and clip points before pulling it out. Keep the new lead clear of hot surfaces and sharp edges. Gas appliance repairs in Australia should be carried out by a licensed gas fitter, who can also test every burner once it's done.
