Large hotplate not heating on your Euromaid or Technika stove
A coil element is a sheathed heating wire wound into a spiral. When the hotplate switch sends power through it, it glows and heats the pan sitting on top. Over years of use the sheath can crack, blister or burn through, and the connections at the terminal end can overheat. Signs of trouble include a hotplate that stays cold, heats in one section only, sparks or trips the safety switch, or a coil that has sagged out of shape. If the element looks fine, the hotplate switch is the next thing to test.

Fitting the hotplate element
Turn the stove off at the switchboard and wait for the hotplates to cool. Stoves are hard-wired, so the element should be fitted by a licensed electrician. Take a photo of the terminal connections before removing the old coil, fit the new element so it sits level in its support or drip bowl, and test it on each heat setting once power is restored.
