Oven cooling fan not running or the knobs getting hot?
Many modern ovens have a cooling fan that blows air through the gap between the oven cavity and the control panel, keeping the switches, wiring and knobs at a safe temperature. A small fixed thermostat like this one senses that heat and switches at 45 degrees. On most ovens it turns the cooling fan on as things warm up and keeps it going after cooking until the oven has cooled down. If the thermostat fails open, the fan may never start and the control panel, knobs or door handle get too hot. If it sticks closed, the fan can keep running long after the oven is off.

Replacing the cooling thermostat
Isolate the oven at the switchboard, and use a licensed electrician for hard-wired appliances. The thermostat is usually mounted on top of the oven cavity or near the cooling fan, so the top cover or control panel may need to come off. Note which wire goes to which terminal, fit the new thermostat flat against its mounting so it reads the temperature properly, then run the oven and listen for the fan.
Questions about this part
Can I just bypass the cooling thermostat?
No. Bypassing it can leave the cooling fan off while the oven is hot, which risks heat damage to switches, wiring and the control panel. Replace it with the correct 45 degree part and have the wiring checked.
