The hose links the vacuum body to the wand and floor tools, so every bit of suction passes through it. Splits, holes and worn cuffs let air leak in, and you'll notice weak pick-up, a whistling noise or dust escaping near the hose. Blockages cause similar symptoms, often with the motor note rising as airflow is choked off. Before replacing, drop a coin through the hose to check for a blockage. Fitting the new hose
Switch the vacuum off and unplug it. Release the hose from the vacuum body, which on most models uses a press catch or twist lock, then detach the other end from the wand. Push the new hose in until it locks at both ends. Run the vacuum and listen for air leaks at the joints before going back to cleaning.
