Heat leaking from the oven door? Time for a new seal
The door seal is the gasket fitted around the front of the oven cavity. It closes the gap between the door and the oven body so the heat stays inside, where the thermostat can control it. Seals go hard, flatten and fray with age, and the corners often pull out of their fixings. Signs of a tired seal include heat or steam escaping around the door, hot knobs or a hot control panel, food that takes longer to cook, uneven browning and higher power bills. With the oven on low, hold a hand near the door edge, not on it, and you can often feel the leak.

Fitting a new oven door seal
Let the oven cool completely. Note how the old seal is held, usually by hooks or clips pushed into holes in the oven front, then pull it out gently. Start fitting the new seal at the top centre and work around the corners evenly so it does not stretch or bunch. Make sure the joint ends up where the old one was, then close the door and check it seals all the way round.
