Bosch oven top element not working
Mounted in the roof of the oven cavity, the top element supplies heat from above for the top heat and grill functions. Being dual circuit, it has two heating sections that the oven can run together or separately, depending on the function chosen. When one circuit burns out, the grill may only heat in part, food won't brown on top, or top heat settings stay cold. Visible blisters, breaks or a burnt patch on the sheath are a clear sign it has failed.

Replacing the top element
Turn the oven off and isolate it at the switchboard, as ovens are normally hard-wired and electrical work should be done by a licensed electrician. Let it cool fully. Reaching the terminals usually means sliding the oven out of its cabinet. Photograph the wiring on every terminal before disconnecting, then move each wire to the matching terminal on the new element.

A new element often gives off a little smoke or a smell on first use as manufacturing residue burns off. Run the oven empty on a high setting for a while, with the kitchen well ventilated, before cooking.
