Electric oven not heating properly
Oven elements heat up by passing current through a resistance wire sealed inside a metal sheath. Over time the sheath can split or blister and the wire inside breaks. A failed element usually shows up as an oven that won't heat or takes far too long to reach temperature, food cooking on one side only, or a safety switch that trips when the oven is turned on. You may also see a visible break, bulge or burnt spot on the element itself. An element with no continuity on a multimeter test has failed and needs replacing.

Checking and fitting the element
Wall ovens are usually hard wired, so isolate the power at the switchboard and have a licensed electrician fit the element. Before anything is removed, photograph the terminal connections and note which lead goes where. Check the leads and terminals for heat damage and replace any that are burnt. After fitting, run the oven and confirm it heats evenly and the safety switch stays on.
