Product details

Part 1825 is a generic defrost heater rated at 450W and measuring 52cm long. It is a universal style replacement for frost-free fridges and freezers rather than a part made for one brand, so the key is matching it to the heater you're taking out. Compare the length, wattage, mounting method and terminal ends with your old one before ordering.

Freezer icing up? A failed defrost heater could be why

In a frost-free appliance, the evaporator behind the freezer panel slowly collects frost as it cools the air. At set intervals the control switches the compressor off and powers the defrost heater, which melts that frost so it can drain away. If the heater goes open circuit, the frost keeps building into solid ice. Airflow stops, the fresh food section warms up, the freezer struggles and you may hear the fan catching on ice. A continuity test on the heater, along with checks of the defrost sensor and timer or control board, will confirm where the fault is.

Replacing a defrost heater

Switch off at the wall, unplug the appliance and move the food to another freezer or a cooler. Let the evaporator thaw completely rather than chipping at the ice. Remove the freezer's back panel, photograph how the old heater is mounted and wired, and check the new one matches before fitting. Secure it in the same position, keep wires clear of the fan and refit the panel. Book a refrigeration technician if you're not confident with the wiring.
