Product details

This genuine thimble cam, part 1760008621, is the closing cam fitted where the fridge door pivots on its hinge, used on a long list of Westinghouse, Electrolux, Kelvinator and Simpson fridges. Electrolux also lists it as 1445804, and 1445795 is another reference for it. Models on file include Westinghouse WSE6070SA and WSE6100WA, Electrolux ESE6077SA and ERE6100SX, Kelvinator KSM6100WB and Simpson SSM6100WA, among nearly 100 others.

Fridge door not closing by itself

The thimble cam sits in the door where it pivots on the hinge pin. Its shaped face rides against a matching profile on the hinge, so the door lifts slightly as it opens, then settles back and swings shut under its own weight. When the cam wears, cracks or splits, that self-closing action disappears. The door may stay ajar, drop at the handle side, squeak or grind as it moves, or leave a gap at the seal that lets warm air in and frost build up. A worn cam also lets the door sag over time.

Part details

  • Also listed as 1445804 and 1445795
  • Self-closing cam that sits on the door hinge pin

Fitting a new thimble cam

Turn the fridge off at the wall and empty the door shelves so the door is lighter. Have a helper support the door while you lift it off the hinge pin. Pull the old thimble out of the door, press the new one in fully and check it seats square. Rehang the door, then open it part way and let go to confirm it closes on its own.

Questions about this part

Do I need a new hinge as well?

Not always. Check the hinge pin and the cam profile on the hinge for wear or cracks. If they are in good shape, a new thimble cam on its own will usually bring back the self-closing action.
