When a Westinghouse fridge handle comes loose
On these Westinghouse fridges the handle doesn't fix straight onto the door skin. It's held by a pedestal, a moulded mount that takes the full load every time someone pulls the door open. After years of daily use the plastic can crack around the screw point, and the handle begins to rock, creak or sit on an angle. Left alone, it can pull away from the door completely. A new pedestal restores a solid grip and stops the damage spreading to the door around the fixing.

Changing the handle pedestal
Open the door and look for screw covers or trim caps hiding the handle fixings, and ease them off with a plastic tool so the door finish isn't scratched. Support the handle as you undo the screws. Swap the cracked pedestal for the new one, then refit the screws firmly but without overtightening, as too much force can split the new mount.
