Product details

This genuine defrost timer, part 1760008332, suits a range of Westinghouse frost free fridges and is also listed as 1415435 and 1431871. Models on file include the RS652M, the RJ412Q and RJ442Q, the RJ452S and RJ522Q, and the RJ532S, RJ532T, RJ533T and RJ536T, plus the BJ504T and FJ208S. Note that this timer comes without a cam. If your old timer has one, the version with a cam is part 1407843.

Freezer icing up or fridge going warm? Test the defrost timer

In a frost free fridge, the defrost timer switches the cooling system off at set intervals and turns on a defrost heater to melt frost from the evaporator, then switches back to cooling. If the timer motor stops or its contacts stick, the fridge either never defrosts or stays stuck in defrost. Heavy frost on the freezer back wall, weak airflow, a fresh food section that slowly warms up, or a fridge that sits silent for hours with no cooling all point toward the timer.

Replacing the defrost timer

Turn the fridge off at the wall before touching any wiring. The timer is usually behind a cover near the controls or at the bottom rear of the cabinet. Photograph the wire colours on each terminal, move them across one at a time, and screw the new timer into the same mounting. If the fridge starts in defrost when powered up, turn the timer shaft by hand to bring it into cooling mode.

Questions about this part

Do I need the timer with a cam?

Look at your old timer. If it has a cam fitted, order part 1407843 instead. This listing, 1760008332, is the version without a cam, matching the timers on file for the listed Westinghouse models.
