The power switch is the main on and off switch on the control panel and carries the mains supply to the control board. Every press wears the contacts inside a little more. Once worn, the dishwasher may not power up at all, cut out partway through a cycle, need several presses to start, or only work when the button is held in a certain position. A switch that feels loose, sticks, or has scorch marks on its terminals should be replaced. Check the power point and plug first to rule out a supply fault.

Replacing the switch
Unplug the dishwasher before removing any panels, as the switch carries mains voltage. In most dishwashers the switch is reached by removing the screws on the inside of the door that hold the control fascia. Photograph the wiring, move the connectors across one at a time and make sure each terminal is pushed fully home. Refit the panel, plug in and test that it turns on and off cleanly.
