Dishwasher not heating water? Check the inline element
Rather than sitting in the bottom of the tub, an inline element is built into a tube that the wash water is pumped through, warming it on the way past. When the element goes open circuit, the wash runs cold, greasy film stays on plates and the drying stage leaves everything wet. Some machines also run far longer than normal or stop with a heating fault while they wait for a temperature that never arrives. A shorted element can trip the safety switch as soon as the heating stage begins.

Fitting an inline dishwasher heater
Switch off at the wall, unplug the dishwasher and turn off the tap. Expect some water to run out when the hoses come off the heater, so have towels and a tray ready. Compare the hose spigots on the old element with the 32mm size, photograph the wiring, then fit the new one with the clamps snug. Run a cycle and check for leaks and warm water.
