Bosch washing machine not draining? Check the pump and filter

At the end of each wash and rinse the drain pump empties the drum through the fluff filter and out the drain hose. The filter catches lint, coins, hair ties and buttons, but anything that gets past it can jam or break the pump impeller. Signs of trouble are water left in the drum, a drain error, a loud grinding or humming noise during pump out, or a spin cycle that never starts. Always clean the filter and check the hose first, then test the pump if the machine still won't empty.

Fitting the drain pump

Unplug the washer and turn off the taps. Drain the remaining water through the emergency drain hose or filter opening into a shallow tray, with towels ready. Depending on the model, the pump is reached from the front after removing the kickplate or from underneath. Photograph the wiring and hoses, swap the pump across, fit the new fluff filter and run a rinse and spin to check for leaks.
