Faulty ignition switches on a 60cm gas cooktop

Each switch tells the spark generator when its knob is pressed, and all four depend on the loom staying dry and intact. Boil-overs are the classic cause of trouble. Liquid finds its way past the knob into a switch, which can then stick on and keep the igniters ticking, or corrode so the burner never sparks. Look also for melted insulation where the loom passes near a burner. A harness fault can make one burner, or the whole cooktop, hard to light.

Replacing the harness

Switch off at the power point and shut off the gas at the isolation valve before you start. This is licensed gas fitter work.
