When a gas control knob needs replacing

Fitting the knob

Make sure all burners are off and the appliance is cool. Pull the old knob straight off the spindle without twisting or levering against the panel. Line up the flat on the spindle with the shape inside the new knob and press it on firmly. Push and turn it through each setting to check it lights and adjusts normally. If the spindle itself is loose or the tap is stiff, call a licensed gas fitter.
