Replacing broken outer glass on a Westinghouse oven door
The outer door assembly is the front face of the oven door, the part you see and touch. It's the outside layer of a multi-layer door, with inner glass panels behind it keeping the front cool enough to handle. Outer glass can crack from a knock, from a hot door being splashed with cold water, or from stress at the hinge or handle mountings. Even a small chip can spread, and oven door glass is usually toughened, so it may suddenly shatter into small pieces. Stop using the oven once the outer glass is cracked, both for safety and because the door won't insulate properly.

Fitting the outer door assembly
Switch the oven off at the isolator and make sure the door is cold. It's far easier to work on the door once it's off the oven and laid flat on a towel. Wear gloves, as broken glass edges are sharp. Note the order of any inner panels, seals and spacers as you separate the door, then rebuild it in the same order with the new outer assembly, keeping fingerprints off the inner faces.
