Dryer not heating? Check the element
The element heats the air that the fan draws through the drum, and without it the dryer will tumble for hours while the clothes stay damp. Element coils can burn through from age, or after the dryer has been run with a clogged lint filter or a blocked vent, because restricted air flow makes the element run hotter than it should. Typical signs are a dryer that runs cold, takes far longer than normal, or trips the power when it starts heating. A multimeter continuity test across the element terminals, with the power off, quickly shows whether it has gone open circuit.

Fitting the new element
Unplug the dryer before taking any panels off. Photograph the element wiring and any thermostats mounted on it, then transfer the connections to the new element exactly as they were. Before refitting the covers, clean out lint from the element housing and check the vent duct is clear, because poor air flow is a common reason elements fail. Run a full cycle to confirm it heats.

Why did my dryer element burn out?
