Ice build up and warm spots from a failing freezer seal
The door gasket uses a magnet and a flexible bellows to pull the door tight against the cabinet. Over time the rubber hardens, splits at the corners or tears where it's caught on frozen food. Even a small gap lets warm, damp air in, which turns to frost and ice on the walls and food packaging. You may also notice the freezer running for longer, the door not closing flush, or water marks around the base.

Fitting a freezer door gasket
Turn the freezer off at the wall and store frozen food in a cooler. Peel back the edge of the old seal to see whether it's held by screws or pushed into a channel. Fit the new gasket starting at the top corners and work down each side, keeping it straight. Soaking a stiff or creased gasket in warm water first helps it relax.
