On a gas cooktop, the switch harness links the small switches on each burner control to the spark generator, so pushing and turning a knob produces a spark at the burner. If the clicking won't stop or a burner won't light, this harness is a common culprit.
Gas cooktop clicking constantly or not sparking?
Each burner tap on the cooktop carries a small switch that closes when you push in the knob. The harness connects all of those switches to the ignition module, which then fires the spark electrodes. Spills that run down around the knobs are the usual enemy, as moisture or grease in a switch can hold it closed. That leaves the igniters ticking non-stop, sometimes even with every burner off. A cracked switch or broken wire does the opposite, so a burner won't spark at all. Let the cooktop dry out thoroughly after a spill before deciding the harness has failed.

Fitting the switch harness
Turn off the power at the wall or switchboard and close the gas isolation valve before starting. As this work is inside a gas appliance, it should be carried out by a licensed gas fitter. Remove the knobs and lift the top to reach the gas valves. Note how the harness is routed, clip each new switch onto its valve and plug the harness into the ignition module. Test every burner before refitting the knobs.
Questions about this part
Why does my cooktop keep clicking after I've turned the burner off?
A wet or stuck ignition switch is the usual cause. Turn off the power and let the area under the knobs dry out completely. If the clicking continues once everything is dry, a switch in the harness has probably failed and the harness should be replaced.
