Fridge not making ice or dispensing water? Check the water valve
Plumbed fridges have a solenoid valve at the back where the water line connects. When the ice maker or dispenser calls for water, the valve opens for a set time and then shuts. A valve with a failed coil stays closed, so the ice tray never fills and the dispenser stays dry, even though water reaches the fridge. A valve that sticks open or has a cracked body can leak behind the fridge or overfill the ice tray, leaving a solid block of ice in the bin. Low water pressure or a blocked filter can mimic a bad valve, so check those first.

Replacing the fridge water valve
Unplug the fridge and turn off the water supply to it. Pull the fridge out and remove the lower rear cover to reach the valve. Have a towel ready for water in the lines, photograph the wiring and pipe connections, then move them across to the new valve. Turn the water on, check every joint for drips and give the ice maker a day to start producing.
