Solid hotplates are tough, but the element inside does eventually burn out. Part 140055949022 is the genuine 180mm, 2000W plate made by EGO for Chef, Electrolux and Westinghouse cookers and cooktops. It replaces 0122004564 and is listed for well over a hundred models, including Chef CFE532WA and CFE536WB, the Chef CHS642SA, the EHC614S, and models in the 64H354 and PAK141 ranges.
Solid hotplate not heating or tripping the power
A solid plate has its heating element sealed into the cast plate underneath, so the whole surface heats evenly. When that element fails, the plate stays cold or only warms patchily, takes far longer to bring a pot to the boil, or trips the safety switch as soon as it's turned on. Cracks across the surface, a plate that has sunk in its trim ring, or burnt terminals underneath are other signs. If the plate still won't heat after the energy regulator checks out, or it measures open circuit, it needs replacing.

Changing a solid hotplate
Turn the cooker off at the switchboard and let the plate cool completely. Most plates are held from underneath by a centre bracket or screw, with the terminals reached by lifting the cooktop. Label the wires before removing them. Fixed wiring is work for a licensed electrician. When first used, a new plate may smoke briefly as its protective coating burns off, so run it on high for a few minutes.

How do I know it's the hotplate and not the switch?
Test the plate's terminals with a multimeter. An open circuit, or a reading to earth, means the plate has failed. If the plate tests fine but won't heat or stays on full, the energy regulator is the more likely culprit.
