This is the genuine Electrolux fan assembly for the fresh food (FF) compartment of fridges in the MD36 range, part number 140040771010. It's the fan that moves chilled air through the fridge section. If you'd rather replace the whole housing, the complete fresh food evaporator cover assembly, 140040769071, can be used in its place.
Fridge section warming up? A failing fan assembly could be why
With the fan stopped, cold air stays trapped around the evaporator, so the fresh food side warms up even though the compressor keeps running. You may also hear the fan before it fails, with clicking, grinding or a high-pitched whine that gets louder when the door is shut. Ice building up around the blade can cause the same noises, and a fan that's been rubbing on ice can wear out its bearings. Before replacing the fan, check that the defrost system is working, or the new one may freeze up too.

Fitting the fresh food fan
Turn the fridge off at the wall and move food to a cool box. Remove the shelves and the cover at the back of the fresh food compartment to reach the fan. Photograph the wiring, unplug the old fan and fit the new assembly in the same orientation. Make sure the blade spins freely, refit the cover and give the fridge a few hours to cool down.
