Why replace a fridge evaporator cover
Behind the cover, the evaporator coil gets very cold and a fan pulls air across it before sending it back into the compartment. The cover keeps food and fingers away from the coil and fan, and shapes the airflow so the cabinet cools evenly. Covers often crack when people chip at ice build-up, and clips can break when the panel is removed during a repair. A damaged or poorly seated cover can upset airflow, leading to warm spots, frost forming in the wrong places or a noisy fan catching on the cover. Fitting the evaporator cover
Switch the fridge off at the wall and move food to a cooler bag. Remove the shelves and anything mounted on the cover, then undo the screws and unplug any connectors as you ease it forward. Let any ice melt fully rather than chipping at it. Fit the new assembly, reconnect the plugs, and check the fan runs freely once power is restored.
