Gas stove won't spark? Signs of a worn piezo ignitor
Inside the piezo unit, a spring-loaded hammer strikes a crystal when you push the button, producing a sharp burst of voltage. That pulse travels down the lead to the electrode at the burner and jumps the gap as a spark. Over time the mechanism wears, and you'll notice a soft or mushy press, no click, or a click with no spark at the burner. If it clicks but the spark is weak or missing, check that the electrode is clean and dry and the lead hasn't come loose before replacing the ignitor.

Replacing a piezo ignitor safely
Turn the gas off at the appliance isolation valve or the main supply before starting. As this is part of a gas appliance, Australian rules say the work should be done by a licensed gas fitter.
