On appliances that use a magnetic door sensor, a small magnet sits in the door and a sensor in the cabinet detects it, telling the control whether the door is open or shut. If the magnet has cracked, dropped out or lost strength, the appliance can no longer tell when the door closes.

Appliance thinks the door is open

When the sensor can't detect the magnet, the control behaves as if the door is open. Depending on the appliance, that can mean an interior light that stays on, a door alarm that keeps sounding, fans that won't run, or a program that refuses to start. The magnet itself is simple, so failures usually come from it falling out of its pocket, its housing breaking or the door sagging out of line. Check the door alignment and the sensor wiring at the same time.

Part details

Genuine Electrolux part 140026775019

Door sensor magnet

15.7 x 12.7mm

Works with the matching door sensor in the cabinet

Size

15.7 x 12.7mm

Replacing the magnet

Switch the appliance off at the wall before working on it.
