What the oven door top cover does
Oven doors are built in layers, with two or more panes of glass held in a frame. The top cover closes off the top of that frame and, on many ovens, lets cooling air move through the door. When it's cracked, melted or missing, the door can look untidy, the glass may sit loose and rattle, and grease or crumbs can drop between the panes. It's a common casualty when a door is taken apart for cleaning. Replacing it keeps the door assembly together the way it was designed.

Fitting the door top cover
Let the oven cool completely and switch it off at the wall or circuit breaker. On many ovens the door is easier to work on lifted off its hinges and laid flat on a towel. Unclip or unscrew the old cover, note which way it faces, and fit the new one the same way. Make sure any glass is seated correctly before you clip it down.
