Each of its three 240V coils opens a separate 10mm outlet, so the controller can send cold water along different paths inside the machine.
Washing machine not filling or overflowing? Check the cold inlet valve
When the controller calls for cold water, it energises one or more coils on the valve and water flows through to the tub. If a coil burns out or a diaphragm inside the valve fails, the machine may not fill with cold water, may fill very slowly, or may keep trickling water in when it should be off. A blocked filter screen in the valve inlet gives a similar slow fill, so check and clean it first. Leaks around the valve body are another sign it needs replacing.

Changing the triple inlet valve
Turn off both taps, unplug the washer and disconnect the inlet hoses. Photograph the wiring on each coil before removing anything, as all three coils must go back on the same terminals. Swap the valve over, reconnect the internal hoses with their clamps, refit the inlet hose with a good washer, then turn the tap on and check for leaks before running a fill.
