Signs your rangehood grease filter is due

Every time you cook, grease droplets rise with the steam and collect on the filter. A good filter stops that grease reaching the motor, fan wheel and duct. When a filter is bent out of shape, has a torn layer or a broken latch, or is so clogged that washing no longer clears it, grease gets past and airflow drops. Changing the filter

Turn the hood off at the switch or isolator and make sure the lights have cooled. Press the catch and swing the old filter down, supporting it so it doesn't drop onto the cooktop. Clean the frame, fit the new filter so the catch engages fully, and run the fan for a moment to check it doesn't rattle. As a rough guide, wash it every month or two with regular cooking.
