When a dishwasher bottom rack needs replacing
The lower basket holds plates, pots and larger items in the path of the lower spray arm and rolls in and out on its wheels. Once the coating chips, the exposed wire rusts and leaves orange marks on dishes. Broken tines let plates fall over and block the spray arm, so you get dirty dishes and rattling during the wash. Missing or seized wheels make the basket drag on the rails or tip forward when pulled out, and a bent frame can stop the door closing properly.

Swapping the lower basket
No tools are needed. Pull the old basket out to the end of its rails and lift it clear. Before fitting the new one, check the rails and door for damage and clear any broken glass or debris from the filter. Sit the new basket on the rails, roll it in and out a few times, and make sure the lower spray arm turns freely underneath.
